- I have this configuration on my system -- a 2.1 gig drive with 95 on
- the 1 gig primary partition and NT on the second gig. The boot
- manager installed by NT is a real breeze, no hassles here...as easy as
- the boot menu letting you reboot to previous version of dos in win95.
- One hint: do NOT try to convert the primary partion to NTFS... big
- mistake.
- NTFS is 25% of the reason i use NT, much more efficient disk
- access. Problem is that 95 can't read NTFS so if you have apps like
- photoshop or office that you want to be able to use no matter what OS
- you boot in, then you gotta install them on the '95 partition. Just
- install everthing into '95 and then reboot in NT and install it into
- the exact same directory, that way all the files that need to be
- copied to the windows/system folder will get there.
- I disagree ever so greatly with the people who claim that NT
- runs slower than 95. It does boot significantly slower, but once the
- OS is up and running it is lightning quick (at least 3.51 is; dunno
- about 4.0). In fact i have found that the longer the system is left
- on the more efficient it becomes. If i haven't rebooted my system in
- 3 or 4 days then i would swear it runs even faster than when i first
- turned it on. Win95 is exactly the opposite. If I go 48 hours with
- significant computer usage without rebooting my system then i find
- system performance to be significantly reduced, a problem i've heard
- referred to as memory leak.
- I've only been running NT for a month or so, but I'd be happy
- to help with any questions about the OS if i can.
-
- Oh, one more thing, if your giving up 95 in exchange for NT,
- then you better join ex-gamers anonymous. Games do NOT work worth a
- shit (or more often do not work at all) in NT.
